This summer, I was asked to recall where I was when I learned that I had breast cancer. Although that was almost seven years ago, there was no hesitation, no finger-to-chin pause to consider.

“I am often asked, “why rowing for breast cancer?” The answer is simple but not small. Rowing as part of a team can increase the quality and quantity of a woman’s life after a breast cancer diagnosis.”

This October, ROW is spotlighting what “pink” really means – bringing our team’s stories to the forefront, sharing facts about breast cancer that may not be common knowledge, and publicizing the real experiences of women who have had a breast cancer diagnosis.

Schools are great supporters of Breast cancer awareness month. There are literally pink pep rallies!. At the time I was diagnosed, my closet was full of pink awareness shirts—my routine, for years, included thinking pink in October. Yet…
